We've begun a very cool project involving timelines:
-Firstly, in about a week, the kids will begin learning about the Ice Age (with a brief note on the age of the Earth, and development of mankind ;). They will need to know a bit about timelines.
-Second (ly?), the kids will begin making their own PERSONAL TIMELINES, using important dates, events, and pictures of their own life... I recommend getting some pics and/or talking to your child about important events in their life together now (digital is fine), to be prepared for next week's HW.
-An finally, my point being, we are making a class timeline of THE HISTORY OF FOSSIL FUELS! using an excellent movie I will post below. We are taking out important bits (this proves to be difficult, as it's all important) and researching these bits in groups. It's heavy and advanced stuff, but I'm breaking it down to 3rd grade level. You can view the final product at our parent meeting (if it's done!)

1.) Go to the blog, and/or to Wordbook Online (WBO) (it's the first link in the below post about our new encyclopedia)
2.) Choose one of the following words to research: oil, global warming, greenhouse effect, fossil fuels
3.) Choose to look on Kids or Student WBO sites
4.) Write down 5 facts in your OWN WORDS on the homework paper, or a seperate piece of paper.
Assignment 2
1.) Research your Fun Fact on the Kids or Student WBO sites
2.) Be ready and prepared to present your Fun Fact to the class (the kids can just prepare mentally...those that are more ambitious can write down facts if they want :)
