NEXT WEEK: THEME WEEK! Preparing for Rio+20 and Sustainable Living!

WEEK 11:
JOHANNES SKOLA THEME WEEK

Johannes Skola will be partaking in its annual theme week next week and this year we are of course focusing on the environment, sustainable living, and preparing for Rio +20. Here's what's in store:

  • The whole school will partake, but grades 2 & 3 specifically will be grouping together in 8 groups and participating in 4 different environmentally-themed activities throughout the 2/3 corridors.
  • Kids can expect activities such as green experimenting (based on water filtration, air pollution, etc) sustainable, useful craft-making, sign and t-shirt painting for Rio+20 preparations, and more!
  • Activites will take place Monday-Thursday, 10am to 11am, lunch break 11-12, continuing 12-13!

  • OBLIGATORY OPEN HOUSE: THURSDAY the 15th, 16:00 to 18:00...here's how it works:
  • students are required to be here during open house, and parents are VERY VERY welcome to come and visit our exhibitions and see what we've been working on throughout the week.
  • it is great if parents could be here at 16:00, and if that is not possible, please inform me through email or note so I can make sure your child is looked after :)

  • During Open House, a great, sustainable exchange program will be offered, so if you have...
            • clothes
            • books
            • toys
            • sports equipment
    • in GOOD condition that you no longer can use, bring it in for our exchange program... bring one, take one is the requirement...example: bring in a pair of old skates and get a new hockey stick...bring in 5 items of younger kid's clothing and exchange for 5 items of older kid's clothing... a book for a book, a Barbie for a Barbie. Sustainable, huh?
    • All exchange will take place in the slöjd hallway...
wait, there's more:
  • No gym class next week at all.
  • Bring a fruit or snack for your child on Open House day.
  • The students are lucky enough to have a great presenter from Stockholm Vatten next Wednesday, 9am, who will come in to do a presentation on the effects of water waste and pollution.
  • This is cool...Field Trip to Stockholm Vatten treatment plant and labratory Tuesday March 27th... BAGGED LUNCH!

And now, on a lighter note:

National Testing begins next week... there are about 6-7 SMALL math tests and 6-7 Swedish reading tests. It is nothing to worry about. I am doing my best to relieve some of the anxiety in the classroom. If you'd like more info or details, let me know. Please try to keep absences to a minimum throughout the next few weeks.

Ok, that is all!

Thanks for reading!
