WEEK 37-38

HOMEWORK and ANNOUNCEMENTS

Math test, Mid-Unit (Division/Multiplication)
STUDY GUIDE
TEST on Tuesday the 17th

5B Math: Mid-Unit Test; Tuesday, September 17th

Part 1:

Times Tables up to 12… not too many 12’s though ;)

How To Practice: use flashcards, drill a friend, write them out…

Part 2:

Regular, equal division, using times tables…

24 = 4
 6               24 = 4          6 x 4= 24
                    ?
How To Practice: Know your times tables by doing the Part 1 practice; make flashcards if you have to…

Part 3:

Division with Remainders (rest)

25 = 4 R1
 6                       6 x 4 = 24 with 1 left over

How To Practice: create your own problems and solve them; know your times tables really well; use the attached homework sheet…

Part 4:

Multiplication: Equation Puzzles

4 x 1,2__2 = 4,000 + 800 + ___ + 8 = 4, 928

   4,1___2
x            3              2 x3= 6… what x 3 = something with a 5?
  1 2, 4 5 6               5 x 3 = 15, carry the 1… 1 x 3 = 3 + 1 = 4…
                                 4 x 3 = 12… 12,456

How To Practice:

Add the mellanled together first, with missing number:

4,000 + 800 + 8 = 4,808

How much to get to the answer of 4,928? 120 more!

So, 4 x what? = 120?

                  It’s 30, so put a 3 in the missing place!

4 x 1, 232 = 4,000 + 800 + 120 + 8 = 4,928

Try These (again?)

a.)  5 x 2,3___2 = 10,000 + 1,500 + ___ + 10 = 11,760

b.)     3,2___4
  x            4
    1 2,9 3 6

c.)   6 x 3,4__2 = 18,000 + 2,400 + ___ + 12 = 20,592

d.)     4,4__3
  x         6
        2 6 5  9  8

e.)  Make your own with mellanled
f.)   Make your own with uppstallning

Think: how many times does 4 go into 120? WATCH THOSE 0’s!!
It doesn’t go into “1”, but it does go into “12”, plus the zero… or into 120!

Part 5:

“Unequal” Division

1236 = (0)412        6012=  102       8120  = 2030
     3                            6                       4

How To Practice:

Review p. 122 and 123

Try these: USE “0”s

8424 =                1569 =              4214 =             1632  =
    4                         3                       7                       4

                6054 =                                     927 =
                    6                                             9

749 =                                                                        618 =
  7                                                                               6

READING LOG UPDATE

We've pushed the reading up to 2 hours a week, to be reached by week 39, so this week it will be bumped up to around 1.5 hours. Here's the deal with the log:
The QUESTION must be answered in full detail, with examples from the book... at least 2 paragraphs.

BOOK CLUB

If we reach 95 books as a class by December 18th, a big party will ensue!
That's 5 books each! EASY PEASY.

For any in-class book that will be used as a "Book Club" item, #13 of the reading log questions must be completed in full (a book report).

Evakuering till Immanuelskyrkan 19 sep 2013

Nothing you need worry about, just a "drill" re: evacuation. All is planned, nothing changes as far as school times (we "evacuate" at 9, back at 10:15)

Johannes OS

Thursday, September 26th: Enskede IP:
packed lunch, sports clothing

LESSONS:
Religion: Still working on animism, creating a fact text using our new conjunctions... a visit to the Yoruba/Ife African Masterwok collection on Skeppsholmen, TBA

Math: you can see above

Art: aboriginal (Australia) design

English: conjunctions; maintaining consistent verb tense in a story; reading groups; fact text...

That's it for now ;)
