WEEKLY LETTER, WK 46/47
Hi all...
HOMEWORK
- Keeping up with the Weekly Reading Logs?
- MATH PACKET given today, Tuesday the 22nd, due NEXT TUESDAY
- SCIENCE HOMEWORK: Sorting and grouping based on terms we learned in class (and using the kids' own creativity)... take 20 items at home and sort them into about 4-6 groups based on things like form, function, color, material, etc. DUE WEDNESDAY the 23rd,
- We are REALLY FINALLY ACTUALLY having the conference call with our Brazilain sister school... Monday the 28th at 14:30...
-The only and earliest time we can do it is 14:30, because of the time difference. They are not in school until 14:00 our time...
-I hope, YET AGAIN, it is OK that your child stay after school a bit to take part in this GREAT opportunity
-They WILL NOT miss regular "mellis" at school
- Our class will be celebrating FIRST OF ADVENT on Thursday the 24th, at 8:45 am!! We have a "sleep in" morning on Thursdays, so if you'd like your child to attend the event at our nearby church, they should be here by 8:30
- I and 2 other colleagues met with Annika Markovic, Sweden's "Environment Minister" at the Miljödepartementet, today to discuss Johannes School's participation in and preparation for the Rio+20 Conference. It was a very exciting opportunity, and we have preliminarily lined up some speakers from the department and other organizations that will come to JS and speak directly to our students. We may also have the opportunity to present our project at the Stockholm +40 Conference in April (kind of a "Sweden Rio +20")
- APT meeting on Wednesday the 23rd, FRITIDS CLOSES AT 16:00!
OUR CLASS
MATH:
- Same as last week... over the next 6 weeks: the subtraction I spoke of in an earlier post (and you can see the new LPP page) , and a unit on "volume" (see LPP page)
READING/WRITING:
- Reading Groups continue every Monday and Thursday
- Grammar Practice (we still must review common mistakes: where vs. were; there vs. their, etc), Puncuation/Capitalization went very smoothly; moving on to plural/singular with verb agreement, and verb recognition/tense
- Free Writing every Monday
- Writng Workshop: "A Scary Story": brainstorming about character, setting, description, plotline (events, beginning/middle or climax/end)... making a story outline... writing the ending FIRST... and following straight through to the end.
SCIENCE (NO):
"Fast eller Flytande" gooing strong. See the LPP page.
SOCIAL STUDIES (SO):
Maps = FINISHED! The kids took the final test last Thursday, and did very well (drawing their own accurate map including continents, oceans, islands, compass rose, equator, red dot for our capital, etc)!
OK, thanks for reading...
