Welcome back, after a nice and needed Autumn Break...
Let's jump right in...
HOMEWORK
- Keeping up with the Weekly Reading Logs?
- MATH PACKET homework is having a little change: I will be giving math on Tuesdays, due the following Tuesday, mainly because I am off on Fridays, and if the kids/you have any HW questions, there needs to be time to ask...
- However... this week, MATH PACKETS will be given on WEDNESDAY, due the following WEDNESDAY! I didn't have time to go over it in class today...
- We are FINALLY having the conference call with our Brazilain sister school... Monday the 14th at 14:00...
-The only and earliest time we can do it is 14:00, because of the time difference. They are not in school until 14:00 our time...
-We have "Skype" installed on our school computers, which we will use for the call...
-I hope it is OK that your child stay after school a bit to take part in this GREAT opportunity
-They MAY miss regular "mellis" at school, so if need be, I will inform you as to whether or not to provide a quick snack for your child
- I have posted our NEW UNITS (LPPS) that we will be covering this and next term under the LPP page...
- We must say goodbye to Lotten, a great teacher and big help for 3E, but we have a solid replacement for her up until Christmas (and a permanent replacement afterwhich), so Reading Groups will continue
OUR CLASS
MATH:
- A "double-whammy" over the next 6 weeks: the subtraction I spoke of in an earlier post (and you can see the new LPP page) , and a unit on "volume" (see LPP page)
READING/WRITING:
- Reading Groups continue every Monday and Thursday
- Grammar Practice (we still must review common mistakes: where vs. were; there vs. their, etc), Puncuation/Capitalization went very smoothly; moving on to plural/singular with verb agreement, and verb recognition/tense
- Free Writing every Monday
- Writng Workshop: "A Scary Story": brainstorming about character, setting, description, plotline (events, beginning/middle or climax/end)... making a story outline... writing the ending FIRST... and following straight through to the end.
SCIENCE (NO):
We've begun a great hands-on science course involving an intro to basic physics and chemistry, called "Fast eller Flytande". See the LPP page.
SOCIAL STUDIES (SO):
Finishing our "Treasure Hunt", in which the kids make their own maps and find a hidden treasure!
OK, thanks for reading...
