I apologize for missing the blog on Friday, and the missing homework last week... I'm sure it created some confusion!
I had tried to post on Friday from my iPhone, but alas, it didn't work!
That being said, here we go...
Week In Review:
Reading/Writing:
Most of us have finished our "Revolting Rhyme" outlines and have begun the actual poem itself... it's going quite well but the kids need to remember to include everything from their outline in their final poem...
We are working on character description from "Boy" and have continued with our role playing "Hot Seat" activity, in which each student mimes the behaviors/traits of a character in front of the class and the rest have to guess correctly which character is being represented...

Spring, 2013

I.) Current Events (The ”News”!)
•Every Friday, we will find one news article/news story to summarize in a 2 paragraph piece…
•We will look on the ”newspaper” apps on the iPads and/or on the news websites on a laptop…You can also bring in a news article from home…
•WORLD NEWS ONLY!
•ENGLISH NEWS SOURCES ONLY!
•We will answer:
1st Paragraph: FACT! Who? What? Where? When? Why?
2nd Paragraph: OPINION! What do you think about the story? What’s your opinion? How will this news affect the future? If it is a ”problem” story (as many news stories are), how could it be solved? How does this story affect your life?
…as we learn more about news articles… how to search for them, how they’re written, how to interpret them… we will write more developed writing pieces
So. HOMEWORK that goes along with this, for this week here, is to search for a suitable online English news source...AND/OR find access to a printed English news source (magazine or newspaper)
