Development Talks
I'm going to hand over most of this to the students (and of course, if the parents have any questions)...
I will be having the kids mark down any questions they may have about the grades in EVERY subject
and
Note any specific areas in which they could develop and tactics they could employ in order to achieve a higher grade (if that happens to be the case)...
If anyone has a specific question aimed at any of the other teachers of 6B, please mark this down so that I can send it directly, or try to get an answer upfront if you have a question now...
So, they'll be prepared for this, and it shouldn't take more than 15/20 mins.

As there are so many different levels of abilities at this point, we have restarted our Friday math groups... Some go with Ulla from 5th grade for extra reinforcement of methods and concepts, others work with me on the same, some work in groups on more difficult material re: these same methods/concepts, and some are undertaking a Math Competition called Känguru, working together to solve complex logic problems and find more than 1 solution to each problem... http://ncm.gu.se/media/namnaren/kanguru/2014/webb/cadetproblem_2014.pdf
SO
We had a long, heavy, and very productive discussion today, along with an analysis of current news articles, regarding the Paris attacks and the possible causes and consequences of this. We covered some pretty heavy stuff, including the rise of right wing extremism as a possible effect of this event, as well some theories behind the root causes of terrorism, and the fine line between upholding free speech and causing offense...
This came from the kids... they had a lot of questions and were very eager to discuss this. I feel the conversation and activities were extremely effective, open-minded, kind, and analytical. These kids really amaze me.
If you have any questions about what we went over, please do not hesitate to ask. I know this is difficult, controversial stuff, but I felt it was so important to explain the complicated situation.
We are also working on a unit about Global Poverty, using UNICEF's material as a guide. See the site:

The kids will be performing a "webquest"... using the attached sites to answer these tough questions. Working in partners with a classmate is ok!
Webquest: Essential Questions on Global Poverty
Poverty
is a complicated and profound phenomenon that has yet to be solved by most
societies around the world. As we’ve
learned in class, the following questions do not have one single answer… In
fact, so many causes, factors, deprivations, and situations are intertwined
with one another that it is often difficult for even governments and NGOs to
get to the bottom of this heartbreaking situation.
What
I would like you to do, now that you’ve brainstormed some of your OWN answers
to these questions, is to perform a webquest…
Use the websites I’ve provided (plus any other valuable websites of your own) to investigate some theories
behind these pressing questions.
When researching, always think:
·
What is each website saying about these
problems?
·
How do the theories differ? What are the similarities?
·
Who is providing the information, and is one
site more valuable than the other?
Please write down any substantial facts you learn, in a
clear, step-by-step format. If you can use PEEL, do so.
11.) What are the root
causes of poverty?
excellent site: http://borgenproject.org/what-causes-global-poverty/

paragraph 4. I suggest reading all of it. And PLEASE, check out the link to the
powerpoint after paragraph 8!! Totally useful…
22.)
Why is poverty
particularly harmful to children?
