Title: Snow Treasure Question: nr. 13
'Snow Treasure' takes place in a small town called Riswyk in Norway, during the II World War. The norwegians decided that it would be best to hide the country's gold from the nazi's so that it could not be used against them (used to purchase weapons) in case of a surprise attack. Riswyk was given about nine million dollars worth of bullion (gold before it's turned into money) to hide. Bomb shelters were being built and plans made. Many countries were sending their gold to U.S.A where it would be kept safe. There was a boy of twelve in Riswyk called Peter Lundstrom, his uncle, Victor Lundstrom, was a successful fisher with his own boat and had been on lots of adventures. It was he who came up with the ingenious plan of sending children over the age of ten down to a small fiord called 'The Snake', lying down on their sleighs with the bullion safely hidden underneath them, once they had reached 'The Snake' the kids would unload the gold bury it in the snow and go back home. The plan was for uncle Victor and his companion to come out of the camouflaged boat near by and load the gold onto it during the night. The nazi's came and were surprisingly friendly when the children raced down the hill, but little did they know that the innocent looking children were "smuggling" their noses. They didn't expect innocent little kids would be capable of this. Later on a nazi soldier was seen spying and taken hostage on the boat, but it turned out, the soldier was polish (from Poland). The last of the gold was loaded and the boat set sail for the U.S .
What stood out about the book was the way it was written. The way the author managed to write about such a sensitive and sad event in history in a way that is both funny and sad. The book is about bravery and commitedness, risking your life for a greater purpose, loyalty. What stands out about the book is that what happened in it may have occured in reality, that maybe it isn't just make-believe.
Title: Bliss Question: nr. 3
This book is about a girl called Rose (short for Rosemary) who lives with three other siblings. Her parents own a bakery and in that bakery they bake pastries and cakes with ... magic. Rose feels invisible or just plain old ordinary. Her big brother Ty (short for Thyme) is handsome, her little brother Sage is funny and the youngest child Leigh (short for Parsley) is adorable. These characteristics are allways being mentioned by her parents and other people, you can kind of understand where Rose is coming from right? And to make matters worse her parents won't ever let -her use the magic cookery booke with all the recepies, she can't even touch it. One day Rose's parents announce that they are going to be gone for a week, before they leave, they forbid her from opening the cookery booke ever. Rose wants to earn her parents and siblings respect, but instead she manages to get herself in big trouble and turn the peaceful Calamity Falls chaotic.
I can relate to how Rose felt, when I was younger I used to feel like my siblings were taking up all the attention. My younger siblings allways had to be taken care of and they got all they wanted because they were, well, the youngest. my older siblings got lots of attention too because they were, well, the oldest. For a long time I tried to do everything right, but it never lasted long.
