WEEK 46/47, ABRIDGED

Hey all! It's got to be a quick blog today, something came up during my planning time and I didn't have time to write a long one!

HOMEWORK:

Reading Log, as usual

MATH: 2 pages (4 sides), angle worksheet (I gave it to the kids in hand... it proved to be too messy to convert it to something that could be seen on the blog)

DUE WK 47, Thursday the 21st

CLASSES:

NEW READING/WRITING PROJECT

If you have time, ask your child to explain this... seeing that part of their "goal system" is to be able to explain their "goals" ;)

There is no real due date for this, as each student is at a different place within the project. I would like that they all be complete by Jul löv, but perhaps we may have to extend this into January as well.

This is not homework.

CLASS BOOK: FINAL PROJECT

Requirements:

a.)          Finish the book… make sure to think about the book as you read… we don’t want any…
“Oooh, I just wanna get this done”
… type of reading!
Pause and think every now and then (use question 8 as a guideline)

b.)          In your Reading Group books, or your Writing Journal (your choice)…
Answer question 13 in three paragraphs.
Answer it as best you can, following your goals…
(full description and examples, maybe use PEEL?)
You’re going to present this to the class!

c.)          Answer your choice of 2 Reading Log Questions, each in 2 paragraphs…
Answer them as best you can, following your goals…
(full description and examples, maybe use PEEL?)
You’re going to present this to the class!

d.)          Make a Keynote or Powerpoint presentation of the book (using question 13 and your thoughts on the 2 other questions) to present to the class!

READING GOALS:

1.)   To think about the message of the book: what were the themes of the book? What was the author trying to get across to you?

2.)  Think about the plot of the book: why did the story happen the way it did? Did the writer have a clear idea as far as delivering the message through this plot?

3.)  Think about the characters in the book: what did each represent, in your opinion? Why did the characters have the traits that they did? Same goes for setting.

QUESTION WRITING GOALS:

1.)   Full sentences, full description.

2.)  Try PEEL, if it works.

3.)  Excellent variation in your language and sentence structure… don’t use the same words/types of sentences over and over.

4.)  Spelling/Puncuation/Capitalization

5.)  Examples from book (see #1 and #2), in a clear, functional way.

6.)  Show me that you’ve REALLY thought about the book! Evaluate (judge), analyze, critique the book. Tear it apart… hehehe!

7.)  Use strong language: strong adjectives, verbs (thesaurus?), use conjunctions, etc.

PRESENTATION GOALS:

1.)   Show me that you’ve asked yourself questions about the book!

2.)  Show me that you’ve thought about your reading goals by describing your thoughts in the presentation

3.)  Present Question 13, as well as the other 2 chosen questions, in a clear, simple way (not tons and tons of writing, but key points that you can explain yourself)

4.)  Don’t just read from the slides, discuss things yourself.

5.)  Use quotes from the book

6.)  Give examples directly from the book

7.)  Speak in a clear, loud voice, with no mess ups ;)

8.)  Use proper grammar, spell/cap/punc on your slides

9.)  Use relevant pictures
