Geometry: Scale Drawings

We have been learning how scale can be used in maps, with models and blueprints, and how to mathematically figure this stuff out. Check the homework below...

READING/WRITING:

Poetry, Symbolism (metaphor, simile, personification)

We finished analyzing "The Road Not Take" by Robert Frost.

The students are attempting to answer some difficult comprehension questions in a developed, thoughtful manner. We have discussed the PEEL paragraph for this purpose (I'm not gonna tell you what that means... you'll have to get your kid to tell you so they can practice!)

A house plan is drawn to a scale of 1:100. The lounge on the drawing is 7.5cm long and 5cm wide. What is the:

Length of the lounge in m?

A model is to be made of a new college building which is 120m in length. The suggested scale is 1:200. How long will the model be?

An aeroplane has a wingspan of 50 meters. A model of it is made on a scale 1:100. How big is the wingspan on the model?

A house was drawn using a scale of 1:100. The main bedroom is 4cm long on the scale plan. How long is the main bedroom?

A map has scale 1:100,000. What distance on the map would represent 20km in real life?

A model of the London eye is 200 times smaller than the actual structure…

The London eye is 94 metres. What is the height of the model?

A walker is taking part in a sponsored walk near the Bowland forest. The starting point is Slaidburn, on to Stocks reservoir then finishing at Newton. How far is the sponsored walk?

A courier travels from a Manchester depot to Bradford where he picks up a package. He takes the package to Preston, where he then travels to Wigan to collect a letter. He heads back to the depot, how much distance has he travelled?
